Restaurant history
"Čaginas" is located in a historic building that once belonged to the talented architect Nikolaj Čaginas (1823–1909). Having come to Vilnius to work as a provincial architect, he purchased this building and transformed it into a cozy, aristocratic house. This architectural heritage has survived to this day, giving the restaurant its uniqueness and authenticity.
In the 19th century, the current J. Basanavičiaus Street was known as Poguliankos Street – one of the prestigious places in the city where the nobility gathered. The building where the restaurant is located today was originally a one-story building, but Nikolajus Chaginas rebuilt it into a two-story cottage, where he lived with his family. Today, the walls of this building preserve not only the historical architectural spirit, but also the culinary discoveries of ancient times.
